This shocked me

In a recent poll on Fitness Magazine’s website, 65% of respondents answered that they would rather be 5 pounds lighter than 5 years younger. I cannot wrap my brain around this one. 5 pounds compared to 5 years of life? What?

As I’ve said before, this country really needs to get a grip on its obsession with weight and body image. If you are struggling with an eating disorder or other body image issue, I encourage you to go to this site for information.

On the flip side, here are some body-image boosters:

• Focus on what your body can do (like make a human being – wow!)
• Wear clothes that fit well and are comfortable. Get rid of those too-tight clothes that lower your confidence. Plus, if you give them to charity, you’ll be helping someone else too.
• Exercise and appreciate how strong your body feels.
• Sleep naked or get naked whenever the urge strikes – unless you will get arrested, of course :) The more you’re comfortable naked, the more you will feel confident under clothes.

I saddens me that anyone would choose 5 measly pounds over 1825 days of life. Choose life in your wonderful, imperfect body.

Well, I definately see your point about teh weight obsession, but I think it’s funny (as in, sad) that we feel the need to have a poll comparing two of women’s highest insecurities. In other words, what’s so great about being 5 years younger? It would make sense if we all suddenly dropped dead at 60, but we don’t. The only advantage to being 5 years younger is looking 5 years younger. Otherwise, a happy and healthy person would be comfortable with themselves at any age.

*I really wish this had apreview section. I see all my grammatical errors in the last post and it drives me nuts. Hard for me to proof-read in the little text box.
