TVs in Baby’s Bedroom
The article that came out today titled Many Young Kids Have TV in Bedroom shocked me. You can read it here.
I’m no saint about watching the TV (I’m addicted to Dancing With the Stars), but I was amazed that the article found that 20% of kids under 2 have their own TVs. 43% of 3- to 4-year olds also have TVs in their rooms, the researchers found. To me, that’s just sad. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I think a child should never have a TV in their room. My kids are 14 and 12 and don’t.
I want to know what my kids are watching, and to be able to talk to them about what they’re viewing. I also don’t need the added stress of keeping an eye on whether they’re sneaking in some TV in their rooms when they shouldn’t.
If you have a TV in your child’s room or not, I would love to hear your comments on this subject. I personally think that we need to get kids away from the TV, not make it easier for them to watch more.
