Organizational Tips for Moms (Part 3) - Laundry

Welcome to Part 3 of my series on organizational tips for mom. Today we’re tackling the never-ending (it seems!) laundry that comes with having children. As always, our organizing expert, Denise Williams, is here to coach us.

MB: Denise, is there any way to lower the time moms spend dealing with the laundry?

DW: To streamline your laundry system, enlist your families’ help! If possible, have a central laundry hamper system and eliminate hampers in every room (except babies’ when you are using special detergent at first). Train even young children (and husbands) to put their dirty clothes in a white hamper, dark hamper, towels, or whatever categories you use to do laundry. That way it is already sorted, in one place (preferably in the laundry room) and you can put a load in each day, by seeing which one is the fullest (small job). Instead of a full day of sorting and laundry (huge job).

Also, teach your family that the floor is not an option for clothes and you will also teach them respect for what they have.

MB: I love the idea of having all the hampers in one location, instead of having to go around to everyone’s room to gather up clothes. I’m definitely implementing this at my house.
