Something old is new again

When I had my first daughter, if a parenting technique I tried wasn’t successful, I would promptly forget the technique. I figured, “That method just doesn’t work for my baby.” But, guess what? Babies change. If your baby, for example, now doesn’t like to be held or burped a certain way, didn’t like the swing when you first tried it, or resisted sleeping in a co-sleeper, it doesn’t mean you should abandon those methods forever.

Babies develop so quickly in the first year of life that a technique that didn’t work at 2 weeks may end up working at 2 months or sooner. So don’t give up on parenting tips if they don’t work at first. Come back to them when your baby is a little older. You may be surprised to find they now work like a charm.
