Not loving every minute of it
I have to laugh when I hear women say they “love every minute” of being a mom. Really? Do they love sleep deprivation? Changing a blow-out poopy diaper? Tons of laundry? C’mon! No one loves every minute of motherhood. If they say they do, I know I probably can’t have a real conversation with them.
The women who are my closest friends are the ones who tell the truth about how parenting has rocked their world. Women who open up on how being a mom can exhaust them, strain their marriages, bore them to tears at times, and question their identities in the world.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my girls enormously and have great times with them, but they also can ride my last nerve like nobody’s business. Let’s stop pressuring mothers into thinking that there is something wrong if they don’t love all parts of mothering. I’ll be the first one to say, “Come over and sit with me so we can talk about what’s really going on.”
