Interview Questions

If you decide to hire a postpartum doula, the ideal situation is to look for a doula while you are still pregnant. It can be difficult to have the time, or energy, to find a doula once you are in the thick of baby care – trust me! :)
Most parents don’t start looking for a postpartum doula until they have worn themselves out and are somewhat desperate for help. Do your best to avoid that situation so you can find an doula who is both available and a good fit for your family.

Here is a list of questions you might like to ask a potential postpartum doula:

• What is your experience, including any training you have had?

• What services do you offer?

• How do you support a breastfeeding/bottlefeeding mother?

• What hours are you available, and do you require a minimum number of hours per visit, or per week?

• What are your philosophies on parenting and supporting postpartum women?

• Do you provide a contract for your services?

• What is your policy when there is sickness in our home?

• What are your fees?

• Do you have CPR certification? A TB test? A criminal background check?

• Can you provide references?
